Wind sensor failure

Postby PaulR » Mon 30 Apr, 2012 5:32 pm

Wind sensor failure. It has recently been found that on the 1st March 2012 the wind sensor developed a fault where it reads a constant and incorrect wind speed and wind direction. Initial ground based investigations have not resolved the issue and further investigations using an elevated work platform are being organized. It is likely that the sensor will be out of operation for several more weeks.

As of 1st August 2012 the wind sensor remains inoperable. It is our expectation that it shall be repaired/replaced by September 2012.

Re: Wind sensor failure

Postby PaulR » Wed 01 May, 2013 5:33 pm

On the 1st May 2013 at ~ 15:20 local Alice Springs time the Ultrasonic Wind Sensor was again made operable. The unit has been the overseas for repairs and re calibration and was only today remounted and tested to confirm its return to full operation. The wind data at the DKASC has therefore been offline since ~ 1st March 2012. The Australian Bureau of Meteorolgy (BOM) has a meteorolgical station less than 10 km from the DKASC. This BOM station has highly accurate wind data which DKASC is hoping to access this data and provide a back fill of wind data (with reference to its true source) to back fill the last 14 months. Further information will be provided if and when this is acheived.
